The CPT Designation

July 16, 2018

All Members:

It has come to our attention again that non-members or members not in good standing have been using the CPT designation to gain employment.  This is not only a mis-representation of yourself, but also of our Association.  I would like to remind all that,

A Full Member is a person who:

  • is a graduate of a recognized Planning Technician program with a minimum of two years technical planning experience; or
  • has a planning related university degree, plus two years of relevant technical planning experience (at the discretion of the Registration Board); or
  • is a non-graduate or has graduated from a program other than a planning technician program, but has a minimum of six years of relevant technical planning experience (at the discretion of the Registration Board).

A Full Member is also a Member in good standing or that has paid their annual membership dues.

Please exercise caution when using the CPT designation, as employers do contact us when interviewing prospective candidates.

Thank you.

Regards,

George T. Zajac, CPT, MCIP, RPP
Co-Executive Director, CACPT
