What Can the CACPT do for you? – The Student Perspective

Deborah Trotter, Laura Davidson, Julie Beaudry, Sara Rayat (Student Representatives)

As student representatives for the CACPT from Fanshawe college, we thought it might be beneficial for other Planning Technician students to outline some of the advantages that we feel students would get from being members of this organization.

Our first experience with the CACPT was the Annual General Meeting in October 2002. This meeting presented the opportunity to hear professionals speak on various projects and experiences within their specific branch of the field. The AGM also gave us the chance to mingle with members and ask questions related to various aspects of the field, helping to relate things learned in class with real experiences.

One of the greatest benefits of being a student member of the CACPT is being notified of various career opportunites from the job postings mailing list. In addition to the job postings, there are numerous advantages to membership. The people you come into contact with through being a member come from many different professional backgrounds, and allow for great networking opportunities.

As a student member, you also have the opportunity to sit on Council as a Student Representative. This provides exposure to a professional environment, as well as giving the opportunity to make suggestions and offer input from a student’s perspective.

Becoming a member provides a student with a great deal of opportunity, for a nominal fee. Along with the advantages already listed, membership with the CACPT shows prospective employers a dedication to learning and a professional attitude.

We look forward to the upcoming year and hope to continue to meet people throughout the oprganization. We fully intend to take advantage of all the resources that are available to us through being members of the CACPT.

Are you looking for a Planning Technician to fill a much needed role within your organization? Gain access to our growing network of over five-hundred experienced members across Canada whose wide range of talents can fulfil any number of planning related needs.
